Skiffie Worlds 2022
Saturday 25th June until Saturday 2nd July 2022
Catterline has sent crews with Spirit to the previous Skiffie Worlds (Strangford (2016) and Stranraer (2018)). We have registered to participate in next year’s event in The Netherlands.
For those not familiar with the previous events, about 60 clubs and 1000 people participated, making it a large festival of rowing. Experience is not essential, but enthusiasm is. In 2018, we had rowers, who had only started rowing a few months beforehand.
There will also be a number of social events, music and other attractions.
The races are over 2 km, with 10 lanes. It is exhilarating to experience racing alongside so many boats. The races typically last 10-15 minutes.
There are 24 different categories of crews (male, female, mixed / open, under 18, under 26, over 40, over 50, over 60, average age 70). So all crews should get the opportunity to row and cox in several races.
Crew only need to be there for the days their events are on. So you can be there for as many days as you want.
We would like to decide shortly whether to go or not. This will be dependent on the number of people who commit to go.
If you are interested or would like to discuss what it involves, please let me know. I am planning to call a meeting for those that are interested in a couple of weeks time.

Key questions:
- How fit do I have to be?
A willingness to row is more important and to do some training in the Spring in preparation for the event. I would expect that all current club members could take part.
- How much will it cost?
The main cost is getting there as well as accommodation.
For a car with 2 people to go on the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam, I expect the cost to be £500.
- Accommodation?
There is a campsite close to the venue. There are also rental houses, but most of these are already taken.
