Six Harbours Row
This is a fun social row involving a lot of cake! Ideally skiffs will launch in Portsoy's New Harbour (built in 1825) and row in company, hugging the coast as closely as is safe and practicable!) past Sandend beach. We won't stop at Sandend harbour as it gets cramped with more than 2 or 3 skiffs and is a little daunting to enter! Then it's on past Findlater Castle and Sunnyside Beach to Cullen harbour, nestled under the impressive railway viaduct. This is the longest leg of the route, almost half way at 12km or so refreshments will be well earned! Cullen Sea School will I'm sure lay on an impressive spread of cakes for a small donation and there is the opportunity for a crew change! Then it is across Cullen Bay for a photo stop at the Bow Fiddle Rock, before we have a quick look into Portknockie harbour. Findochty harbour is another picturesque spot for a crew change and the watersports club will lay on sandwiches and cakes (and the Admirals pub is just next door!). Then it's another 5 km or so on to the working harbour at Buckie, where the skiffs will be recovered at the slip.
This is a charity row, originally organised to coincide with the Buckie Rotary's 6 Harbour Walk. This year we are rowing out on our own, but there is a suggested donation of £5 per rower which we will split 50/50 between the Rotary Club and Buckie RNLI.
